LifeLinks and SightSpeed: The perfect combination for your best VRS!

Using a Webcam to call an interpreter has several benefits:

  • You can see how many interpreters are online and currently available
  • You can choose the gender of your interpreter
  • You can find out if they speak and interpret a particular language

To contact LIFELINKS interpreters with a webcam, you must first install SightSpeed software.

What is SightSpeed?

Sightspeed is a Video Messaging Program that allows you to make video calls to interpreters using your PC and a Web Camera (webcam). This allows you to choose an interpreter and to greatly improve your communication via direct sight recognition.

How do I get SightSpeed?

Boost Your VRS Capacity in Eight Simple and Easy Steps

  1. Log on to http://www.sightspeed.com/download
  2. Click New Members
  3. Type your details, select a password, and click Continue
  4. Click the link to Download SightSpeed
  5. You are presented with the Option to download SightSpeed for Windows or for Mac. Choose your appropriate download
  6. A Dialogue box opens. Choose "Save to Disk"
  7. When the download is done, double-click on the setup file (this file is usually saved on your desktop, and is usually called "SightSpeedInstall")
  8. Follow the setup instructions to select your webcam, connection speed, and settings. When you are done, click Finish

Logging into SightSpeed and Adding Interpreters to your Buddy List

Assistance in a Foreign Language:
Please notify the interpreter
if you would like assistance in another language, for example
Spanish or Russian.
Once you're done downloading and installing SightSpeed:
  1. Open SightSpeed, type your Username and Password, and click Login
  2. Hint: When you log in for the first time, and at times even in recurring logins, you may see that takes a long time for your contact list to load. If this is the case simply logout and log back in Click on the Contacts button
  3. In 'Add a Contact to your list' copy the following email addresses. Adding these email addresses will allow you to contact all of these LifeLinks interpreters
    Select All
  4. Place your cursor in the contacts data box above and press Control C.
  5. Go to the Sightspeed page and click "add contacts."
  6. Press Control V with your cursor in the contacts box.
