LifeLinks 911 Compliance

LifeLinks supports the Federal Communications Commission’s decision to make 911 calls accessible via video relay services for all deaf and hard of hearing individuals. LifeLinks callers are now able to make emergency calls to 911 by way of LifeLinks.

To make a 911 call, just call LL911.TV from your videophone. You can also add LL911.TV to your address book and place a 911 call by dialing that entry.

When LifeLinks receives a call through LL911.TV, the next available Video Interpreter (VI) will answer. You will be asked to verify your name, the location of the emergency, and the nature of your emergency. The VI will then contact an emergency response center in your area and relay your information immediately. If your call is disconnected, the VI will call you back. [You can also make a 911 call by calling LifeLinks regularly and identifying your call as an emergency.]

If for some reason you are unable to reach LifeLinks to make a call to 911, please dial 911 from a TTY or dial 911 from any landline or mobile phone and leave the headset off the hook.

NOTE: LifeLinks shall not be held liable or otherwise responsible for any error during the emergency call process, or for any delay in the call process or for any delay in the availability of video interpreters. LifeLinks shall not be held liable or otherwise responsible for any error in the transmission or interpretation of any information pertaining to the emergency, including but not limited to: location, identifying information including but not limited to names, nature of emergencies, or any other details shared during the call. Additionally, LifeLinks shall not be held liable or otherwise responsible for any delays or other problems of any sort with emergency personnel’s arrival or services. Customers are required to keep their address/contact information current and should log into their LifeLinks account to update it whenever necessary.

WARNING: Calling 911 through a relay center is not the same as calling 911 from a TTY. Because your TTY is connected to a landline, your local emergency response center already has your address associated with your TTY’s telephone number and can send help directly to your location, even if you do not type anything.

When you dial 911 through a VRS provider, your location may not be automatically known. The Video Interpreter will ask you for the location of your emergency, and will then call your emergency response center and relay this information to them. This process increases the amount of time it takes to place 911 calls through VRS and increases the risk of errors in gathering your location information. For these reasons, LifeLinks recommends that you always use a TTY to make 911 calls.
